A COURAGEOUS FRIAR CELEBRATES HIS 60th BIRTHDAY

Brother Peter with his Mother

These are three photographs taken at Brother Peter Hooper's 60th birthday celebration at Littlehampton on May 23rd 2009.  Br Peter has for many years courageously borne the heavy cross of a serious illness for which he is being lovingly nursed by the Sisters at St Joseph's Nursing Home, Littlehampton.

It was a lovely celebration attended by Br Peter's mother Sheila (unfortunately his father Dennis was unwell that day and couldn't attend), friends and friars.   Br Seamus, his Guardian at Canterbury, preached about all that Peter has given to the Province both in the past and now, through the example of how he has lived with his illness - without complaint or self-pity, always joyful and willing to allow others to care for him.  Br Seamus also thanked and praised the Sisters and other staff at St. Joseph's Nursing Home for the love and care they give to Peter.

The Mass was followed by a birthday lunch and cake-cutting and lots of photo-taking.  All in all a wonderful celebration.

Sadly, Brother Peter died within a short time of this celebration on 3rd July 2009.  May he rest in peace.  For a report of his funeral click here
